All Minecraft Mob Vote Winners and Nominees (2017–2023)
A history of what we got, and what we lost. Remember the Copper Golem?
The Minecraft Mob Vote is always a controversial event. For every cute mob that gets added, two others are discarded into the "Ideas Library," potentially never to be seen again.
Curious about what could have been? Here is the complete history of every Mob Vote winner and the losers we left behind.
2023: The Armadillo
- Winner: Armadillo (Added in 1.20.5). Drops Scutes for Wolf Armor.
- Losers:
- Crab: Would have increased player block reach range. (Community favorite for builders).
- Penguin: Would have made boats travel faster.
2022: The Sniffer
- Winner: Sniffer (Added in 1.20). Digs up ancient seeds (Torchflower and Pitcher Plant).
- Losers:
- Rascal: A cave-dwelling mob that played hide-and-seek and gave rewards.
- Tuff Golem: A statue that could hold items and move around.
2021: The Allay
- Winner: Allay (Added in 1.19). Collects items for the player.
- Losers:
- Copper Golem: Would have randomly pressed copper buttons. Eventually oxidized into a statue.
- Glare: Would have alerted players to areas dark enough for monsters to spawn.
2020: The Glow Squid
- Winner: Glow Squid (Added in 1.17). Drops Glow Ink Sacs for glowing item frames/text.
- Losers:
- Iceologer (Chillager): A hostile mountain mob that summoned ice clouds.
- Moobloom: A yellow cow covered in buttercups that interacted with bees.
2017: The Phantom
- Winner: Phantom (Added in 1.13). Attacks players who haven't slept. (Widely considered the most regretted vote by the community).
- Losers:
- The Great Hunger: A mob that could enchant/disenchant items.
- The Wildfire: A blaze with shields.
- The Barnacle: An ocean monster that dragged players down.
Can We Play With the Losers?
Mojang has stated that losing mobs might come back one day (like the Swamp biome eventually did), but there are no guarantees.
However, on Java Edition, you don't have to wait. Modders have recreated almost every lost mob. You can install mods like "Friends & Foes" to add the Copper Golem and Iceologer to your world today.
